EroeGo reclaims ugly vegetables and sends them to consumers at discounted prices
EroeGo is the UAE’s first ugly fruit and vegetables delivery service. Founder Daniel Solomon is on a mission to fight food waste by helping consumers save money. The brand was founded to rescue unseemly looking vegetables to take them from farmer, directly to the consumer.
Solomon spoke to Caterer Middle East about why he launched his business. He said: “A lot of the food waste here is caused by the ‘ugly’ problem. This bit of veg is too big, too small or it just has a funny shape. Another common reason for vegetables being rejected is because of unusual colouring.”
What does this mean for the current grocery ecosystem? A third of the food grown globally is wasted. And while food waste is only increasing – some people still have no access to food.
“I have been lucky enough to travel around the world,” said Solomon. “But when I return home to Nigeria, I am constantly reminded of how there are still so many hungry people. It did not sit well with me. On the one hand, we are throwing away so much food that we are hurting the planet, and we are also doing it while people are struggling to get a decent meal.”
Solomon decided to do something about it. With a vision to end the global issue of food waste and make food more accessible and affordable, he wanted to start right here in Dubai.
